Remove risk and uncertainty from your migration to Citrix XenApp 7.7 with this solution.
Total will provide you with the technical expertise plus relevant software and hardware to painlessly migrate to a new XenApp 7.7 environment. You benefit from a trouble-free migration, an optimised reference architecture that has been thoroughly researched and tested, detailed documentation and a face-to-face knowledge transfer.
Citrix XenApp 6.0 and 6.5 reach End of Maintenance on 24 February 2016 (when code-level maintenance, such as Minor Versions, Service Packs, Hotfixes and Hotfix Rollup Packs, ends). End of Life (the end of technical support and security related Hotfixes) follows on 24 August 2016. Citrix XenApp 5 has already reached End of Life.
Migration to the latest version of XenApp (7.7) is not a simple upgrade. XenApp is now based on the same FlexCast Management Architecture as XenDesktop. Consequently, migration involves the creation of a completely new XenApp site, deployment of Delivery Controllers and often also the implementation of StoreFront and upgrade of Citrix Receiver.
Migration from XenApp 5 involves the additional complication of moving from a 32-bit to 64-bit architecture.
Total has the knowledge and experience to provide you with a painless migration to Citrix XenApp 7.7. With Total’s XenApp 7.7 migration solution you will get:
As part of Total’s non-chargeable (pre-sale) work a consultant will discuss your requirements in order to produce a formal proposal containing a solution overview.
Total’s design and implementation methodology is composed of eight stages, although some of these may be circumvented for simple or small migration projects. The first two stages confirm the validity of any assumptions made during the pre-sale consultancy.
1 Discovery and analysis
This stage provides the detailed information necessary to correctly, and hence cost-effectively, architect and size your new XenApp environment. A consultant will review your business requirements and conduct a discovery exercise, to understand applications deployed and current usage, application compatibility testing and determine any application packaging requirements.
Total will reassess the high-level design, in the light of the discovery findings, and develop a detailed architectural design and project delivery plan.
Total will build a proof of concept environment for trial use by a representative group of users. This provides a controlled environment in which to identify, and resolve, any potential issues and verify the performance and scalability of the design.
Total’s consultant will, if necessary, revise the design based on learnings from the pilot stage and then develop and implement the production environment.
5 User Acceptance Testing
This stage involves a fully functional test of the newly implemented production environment and all applications by a representative subset of the user base.
6 Service transition
Total will ensure that the service delivery team, whether in-house or outsourced, are equipped with the knowledge they need to manage your new Citrix environment. This knowledge transfer usually focuses on third line staff, but can be extended to include second and first line staff, and also includes provision of all build documentation.
Users are migrated to their new XenApp environment and, where contracted Total’s business-as-usual (BAU) support commences. Responsibility for user migration will be agreed prior to project commencement but many customers wish to undertake much of this with guidance from the Total consultant.
8 Project closure
As well as concluding any final actions, this stage involves a formal review of the project as part of Total’s CIP (Continuous Improvement Process) programme.
A successful project requires a management sponsor and facilitator, the availability of relevant technical stakeholders and administrator access to relevant systems.
